An Awesome Upperville

Elise Hester and Foxlair Tango

Skyland celebrated a fabulous week at the 170th Upperville Colt & Horse Show “under the oaks” from June 5-11 in Upperville, Virginia.

We had many spectacular moments, from classic winners and ribbons to a Local Pony Hunter tricolor, family class and leadline ribbons! Kudos to the entire Skyland team and staff.

Elise Hester made her Large Pony Hunter debut an impressive one with Foxlair Tango. After the wildfire smoke out of Canada canceled the Local Ponies on Thursday, we regrouped and added Elise and Tango to the A-rated division. Elise was confident and excited to jump up a level and earned scores in the 80s for a third place over fences, third in the VHSA/EMO Pony Medal and a well-earned eighth in the R. Pillion Memorial Large Pony Hunter Classic.

“I’m so proud of Elise and Foxlair Tango!” said trainer Denice Perry. “They came home with amazing ribbons in this highly competitive division.”

Elise also added a tricolor to the Skyland Farms banner aboard Ivy Moon. The pair’s consisent performances in the Local Small Pony Hunters were rewarded with a first and third over fences and a fourth in the under saddle for the reserve championship.

Chloe Welsh and Piedmont’s Uptown Girl enjoyed great rounds in the Local Medium Pony Hunters and collected a second under saddle as a highlight of their day.

Michele Trufant and Biaggi

Michele Trufant continued her winning results in The Masters Jumpers aboard Biaggi. They were fast and clear in all of their classes and placed third in The Masters Classic for a nice paycheck! They are an amazing combination, and we’re so impressed with their continued improvement.

Michele also showed Itchy Garrett to ribbons in the Low Adult Amateur Jumpers, with clear performances in a huge division.

Congratulations to Virginia Fout and Conway for winning the highly coveted NAL/WIHS Adult Amateur Hunter Classic with scores of 85 and 90! Upperville was their first time showing together, and they quickly forged a strong partnership. “I’m so proud of them, and they were beautiful to watch,” said Denice.

Virginia Fout and Conway

Virginia also earned excellent ribbons aboard her Carma, with a second in the 3’3” Amateur-Owner Hunter, 36 and over, handy round. As an added bonus, Virginia and daughter Logan placed second in the family class aboard Carma and Conway, respectively.

Painted Horse LLC’s On Point joined the Skyland Farm team for Upperville and had super rounds in the highly competitive 3’3” Green Hunters with Chiara Parlagreco in the irons.
