Skyland Has Super Success at HITS Culpeper

Catano 29 and Emma Pell

Catano 29 and Emma Pell made their Grand Prix debut together during the two-week HITS Showday National and Cavalier Classic, held July 1-12 in Culpeper, Virginia.

The pair placed an impressive fourth in the $20,000 HITS Open Grand Prix on Sunday July 12 in just their second grand prix together.

"They were awesome," said trainer Denice Perry. "The fact that Catano could jump beautifully in the Welcome on Friday and then place second in the USET Show Jumping Talent Search on Saturday and then fourth in the Grand Prix on Sunday says so much about what a great horse he is. He and Emma are a wonderful match."

Emma and Santos also tied for championship honors in the Medium Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers and placed fourth in the Pyranha Junior/Amateur Jumper Classic at 1.30m.

"Emma rode great all week," said Denice. "She's really worked hard this summer, and it's paying off now that we're back in the show ring again."

Mosie Pennington's Yours Truly

Mosie Pennington also spent time this summer practicing and honing her skills, and the results were rewarding. Mosie and Dreamscape earned the Small Pony Hunter championship, and she guided Yours Truly to the championship in the Small/Medium Green Pony section.

Emma also collected championship results aboard and Sarah Freidah’s Farnley Marathon in the Virginia-Bred Pony Hunter section. This talented Medium Pony is available for sale or lease. For more information, please visit the Skyland Farm sales page.

Meghan Finlay and Chabalouba Son took great ribbons in the equitation as did Emma and Ari 55. Emma and Meghan placed first and second, respectively, out of 16 in the VHSA Flat Medal for a Skyland sweep of the top placings. Meghan also won in the Modified Children's/Adult Hunter section with Chabalouba Son to finish a great weekend.

Meghan also rode Sofia Car to blue- and red-ribbon performances in the Children's Jumpers and captured nice ribbons with Tory Burch in the 3’3” Junior Hunters. Meghan and Sofia Car also took sixth in the Marshall & Sterling/NAL/WIHS Children’s Jumper Classic in a competitive field of horses and riders.

Our beloved Michele Trufant and her Thoroughbred Itchy Garrett showed up just for the weekend and won both Low Adult Jumper classes. They were also second in the Modified Children’s/Adult Jumpers on Sunday for a very rewarding trip to Culpeper.

"Everyone rode amazingly, and the horses were all super," said Denice. "We're looking forward to continuing the momentum the rest of the summer."
