Costumes and Champions Highlight Virginia Fall Classic

Team "Wizard of Oz"

Once a year horse shows and Halloween cross paths, and the results are often fun and entertaining. This year's Virginia Fall Classic Horse Show was no exception, and the Skyland Farm team made quite an impression October 21-25 at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington.

Sofia Car and Meghan Finlay won the competitive $1,500 NAL/WIHS High Children’s/Adult Amateur Jumper Classic, and Meghan rode her Chabalouba Sun to championship honors in the 3'3" Junior Hunters. The pair won both jumping classes on Sunday amongst other good ribbons.

Mosie Pennington and Judith Hahn's Twizzler continued their successful season, taking the reserve championship in the Schooling Pony with a first and second over fences. Mosie also rode her own Dreamscape to excellent ribbons in the Pony Hunters, including a second over fences.

Edyen Molden and Carol Eichner’s Wynnbrook Rose Point won the Pony Hunter handy class with a beautiful trip!

Longtime partners Cirena and Denice Perry had a win and ribbons in the 1.10m Jumpers. It was great to see them back in action together and in winning form!

Highlighting the week was the costume class, where the team "Wizard of Oz" prevailed. Meghan was the scarecrow riding Chabalouba Sun, the cowardly lion, Mosie was on Glynda, the good witch, our barn neighbor Danny Mahon was Dorothy with Toto on her horse and, of course, Denice was the wicked witch with her broomstick!

"It was a great show and so much fun," said Denice. "I'm so glad that we can all enjoy spending time with our horses in and out of the show ring!"
