Skyland Farm made great memories and collected many impressive ribbons during the fourth week of the Winter Equestrian Festival circuit, held January 31-February 4 in Wellington Florida.

Leslie Kopp and her jumpers starred in the Low Adult Amateur, 36 and Over, Jumpers this week, earning great ribbons. Most impressively, Leslie took the top two spots out of 26 competitors in Friday’s class, earning the win aboard El Cano and second place on Dolce Vita, respectively.

Leslie returned on Sunday, and both of her mounts placed in the $1,500 Low Adult Amateur Jumper Classic, placing sixth and seventh in a competitive class to culminate a wonderful week.

Emma Pell with Cedilo

Emma Pell continued her excellent performances in the pony ring aboard a string of sale ponies she’s showing this winter. Emma guided her own Cedilo to the Medium Green Pony Hunter championship, and the fancy chestnut is now qualified for this summer’s US Pony Finals.

Emma and Thora Pollak’s Rebel Yell earned excellent ribbons in every Medium Pony Hunter over fences class (with the reserve under saddle).

“He went beautifully, and they were also also fifth in the Classic,” said Denice. “Rebel Yell is a wonderful pony and also available for sale/lease.”

Judy Hahn’s Twizzler had a good showing in the Small Green Pony Hunter section and won her last jumping class on Sunday with a lovely performance.

“We had so many highlights this week, and it wasn’t just about the ribbons,” said Denice. “Leslie’s hunters also went very well, with some nice scores, while Emma is learning the ropes in the “Big Equitation’ with her new horse F 15. She’s really enjoying him. And we’re all enjoying the winter in Florida!”

Emma also jumped to second place aboard Amelie in the Low Children’s Jumper Classic in a field of 55 entries.

“It was a great week for Emma! She even did the High Children’s Jumper speed class on Amelie,” said trainer Denice Perry. “I think she’s really found her niche in the jumpers, and the consistency in her riding has improved tremendously.”

Leslie Kopp joined the Skyland Farm team in the show ring this week, riding her Gone Country in the 3’3″ Amateur-Owner Hunters. She also received blue ribbon clears in the .95 Training Jumpers with Cardine for an excellent start to the circuit.

Skyland Farm also congratulates client Virginia Bonnie for her success on the HITS Desert circuit in California. During Week 1, Virginia won the Marshall & Sterling High Children’s Jumper Classic aboard Captiva, earned great ribbons in her equitation debut aboard Jelti JS and guided Blue A Kiss to top placings in the Large Pony Hunters.

“Emma rode beautifully,” said trainer Denice Perry. “I think she’s found her calling in the jumper ring. After such a fantastic start, I think Emma may move up to the Children’s Jumpers in few classes next week. It was a tremendous way to start the circuit.”

A Snowy Season

The Skyland Farm riders and horses remaining home in Virginia this winter have made the best of the above average snow fall.

In between shoveling out, they took time to build a Skyland Snowman!
