Wonderful WEF 1 For Skyland Farm

The Skyland Farm team got off to a great start during Week 1, January 9-13, of the Winter Equestrian Festival circuit in Wellington, Florida.

Leslie Kopp and the veteran El Cano jumped to two blue ribbons in the Don Little Adult Amateur Masters Jumpers and finished as reserve champions without even doing the Classic!

“We decided to save El Cano for the competition in the International Ring in two weeks,” said Denice. “He’s 22 this year and still going strong!”

Emma Pell and Santos collected great ribbons in the 1.15m Modified Children’s Jumpers, including a fifth in the $2,500 NAL/WIHS Children’s Modified Classic.

The team also picked up many schooling jumper clear round ribbons as a circuit warm up.

In the Hunter ring, Skyland Farm’s homebred C’Superman, a 4-year-old Holsteiner (Copperman–Cirena), made his show ring debut in the 3- and 4-year-old Pre-Green Hunters. The talented bay earned ribbons in every class, with superb jumping efforts. Then, he spent some time soaking up the sun in his paddock!

Skyland Farm made great memories and collected many impressive ribbons during the fourth week of the Winter Equestrian Festival circuit, held January 31-February 4 in Wellington Florida.

Leslie Kopp and her jumpers starred in the Low Adult Amateur, 36 and Over, Jumpers this week, earning great ribbons. Most impressively, Leslie took the top two spots out of 26 competitors in Friday’s class, earning the win aboard El Cano and second place on Dolce Vita, respectively.

Leslie returned on Sunday, and both of her mounts placed in the $1,500 Low Adult Amateur Jumper Classic, placing sixth and seventh in a competitive class to culminate a wonderful week.

Emma Pell with Cedilo

Emma Pell continued her excellent performances in the pony ring aboard a string of sale ponies she’s showing this winter. Emma guided her own Cedilo to the Medium Green Pony Hunter championship, and the fancy chestnut is now qualified for this summer’s US Pony Finals.

Emma and Thora Pollak’s Rebel Yell earned excellent ribbons in every Medium Pony Hunter over fences class (with the reserve under saddle).

“He went beautifully, and they were also also fifth in the Classic,” said Denice. “Rebel Yell is a wonderful pony and also available for sale/lease.”

Judy Hahn’s Twizzler had a good showing in the Small Green Pony Hunter section and won her last jumping class on Sunday with a lovely performance.

“We had so many highlights this week, and it wasn’t just about the ribbons,” said Denice. “Leslie’s hunters also went very well, with some nice scores, while Emma is learning the ropes in the “Big Equitation’ with her new horse F 15. She’s really enjoying him. And we’re all enjoying the winter in Florida!”

 

Skyland Success Continues in Florida

The Skyland Farm  team continued on collecting great ribbons and fun memories during the Deeridge Hunter and Jumper Derby, March 1-5 in Wellington, Florida.

Highlights were Leslie Kopp’s Bethany and rider Chiara Carney taking ninth place in the $5,000 Deeridge Hunter Derby. “She was in super company, and they where both great!” said trainer Denice Perry of the field of 40 competitors.

Emma Pell on Ari 55 jumped to an impressive second in the 1.15m Deeridge Jumper Derby. “The class was open to everyone, and Ari and Emma jumped without faults,” said Denice. “I was so proud of them for being faultless and so fast. They were awesome. Emma also received an eighth-placed ribbon on Amelie in the 1.10m jumpers on Saturday and Ari was fifth.”

A special congratulations to Virginia Bonnie for her awesome results on the HITS Coachella Desert Circuit in California. Winner of three $2,500 M&S/NAL High Children’s Jumper Classics with Captiva, blue ribbon in the USEF Talent Search Medal 2* and victory in the $1,000 Children’s/Adult Speed Classic. Way to go!

Debuts and Blues at WEF 2

After a successful first week on the Winter Equestrian Festival circuit, Emma Pell continued her winning ways and also moved up a level in the jumpers, for a gratifying Week 2, held January 18-22 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Florida.

Emma and Ari 55 placed first in the Low Children’s Jumpers (in a class of 61 competitors) and then moved up to the High section, where they earned an impressive fourth at 1.15m in the High Children’s Jumper classic.

Emma also jumped to second place aboard Amelie in the Low Children’s Jumper Classic in a field of 55 entries.

“It was a great week for Emma! She even did the High Children’s Jumper speed class on Amelie,” said trainer Denice Perry. “I think she’s really found her niche in the jumpers, and the consistency in her riding has improved tremendously.”

Leslie Kopp joined the Skyland Farm team in the show ring this week, riding her Gone Country in the 3’3″ Amateur-Owner Hunters. She also received blue ribbon clears in the .95 Training Jumpers with Cardine for an excellent start to the circuit.

Skyland Farm also congratulates client Virginia Bonnie for her success on the HITS Desert circuit in California. During Week 1, Virginia won the Marshall & Sterling High Children’s Jumper Classic aboard Captiva, earned great ribbons in her equitation debut aboard Jelti JS and guided Blue A Kiss to top placings in the Large Pony Hunters.

Skyland Farm riders and horses enjoyed a great start during Week 1 of the Winter Equestrian Festival circuit in Wellington, Florida, held January 11-15 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.

Emma Pell and Amelie earned the Low Children’s Jumper championship and won the $1,500 Low Children’s Jumper Classic. Most impressively, Emma’s victories came with 65 entries in the jumper section and 60 in the Classic. She also placed fourth in the Classic aboard Ari 55 for two impressive ribbons.

“Emma rode beautifully,” said trainer Denice Perry. “I think she’s found her calling in the jumper ring. After such a fantastic start, I think Emma may move up to the Children’s Jumpers in few classes next week. It was a tremendous way to start the circuit.”

Emma Pell and Checkmate

Skyland Farm horses and riders continued their excellent performances during Week 2 of the Winter Equestrian Festival circuit in Wellington, Florida, January 20-24.

Emma Pell and Checkmate starred in the highly competitive Medium Pony Hunter section, winning the Handy round in a field of 33 entries. Emma also guided Virginia Bonnie’s Wink And Smile to two second-placed ribbons over fences in the Small Pony Hunters and her own Forget Me Not to excellent ribbons in the same section for a banner weekend all around.

Special congratulations to Virginia and Blue A Kiss for their Reserve Championship in the Large Pony Hunter section on the HITS Desert circuit in Thermal, California over the weekend. Virginia also earned ribbons in the Children’s Jumpers aboard her new horse, Blink. Great job!

Leslie Kopp and Fenwick added to their ribbon collection with impressive placings in the 3’3″ Amateur-Owner, 36 and over, section.

The young Coffee Boy impressed the judges in Florida, with ribbons in every class of the Pre-Green 3- and 4-Year-Olds with trainer Denice Perry riding. His prizes included two second-placed ribbons over fences in good company.

Skyland Farm sends best wishes to our friends and neighbors in Virginia, where some areas around Skyland’s Middleburg home base received between 2 and 3 feet of snow during the blizzard.

Grand WEF Finale

The Skyland Farm horses and riders concluded the 2015 Winter Equestrian Festival circuit in Wellington, Florida, on March 29 with a variety of accolades and great show ring mileage.

Emma Pell and Glynmagic Cover Girl had a strong finish during WEF Weeks 11 and 12, winning the reserve championship in the Small/Medium Children’s Pony Hunter section this week, which followed on the heels of their championship performance during WEF 11.

“The Small/Medium Children’s division is one of the most highly contested on Pony Island,’” said trainer Denice Perry. “There are always strong riders as well as good competition in that section.”

To top off the season, Emma also earned enough points and top ribbons to capture the WEF Circuit Reserve Championship in that section, a huge honor.

“Emma rode great throughout the winter, and she and the pony are a super match,” said Denice. “I wish them the best of luck this spring moving up to the Medium Pony Hunter division. I think they have a bright future.

“We are also excited to announce that Emma has a new small pony. She will be bringing Forget Me Not back to Virginia, and we look forward to a great show season with this wonderful pony,” Denice added.

Emma also placed second in the WIHS Pony Medal on Forget Me Not, a great ribbon in a competitive class during WEF 12.

Elizabeth Wiley also had a winning grand finale at WEF with both of her hunters. She and Crescendo placed first, second and fourth on final day in a section of the Adult Amateur, 36-49, Hunters, and she also guided Say Again to first- and second-placed ribbons during their section.

“Elizabeth really put it all together for her finale,” said Denice. “The horses went beautifully, and she gave them great rides. Kudos!”

Skyland Farm’s Coffee Boy also made his show ring debut at the end of the season, taking top ribbons home from the Pre-Green Hunter 3- & 4-Year-Old section during Week 12.

A special congratulations to Leslie Kopp for her purchase of El Cano and her continued lease of Ainsley Treptow’s The Impressionist.

WEF 8 Was Great

Skyland Farm riders and horses enjoyed a fantastic Week 8 during the Winter Equestrian Festival circuit, February 25-March 1 in Wellington, Florida.

Danielle DeRisio collected the Low Children’s Hunter championship aboard Wyndmont’s Kinsale. The pair won three out of the five classes in the section, an impressive feat in a field of 45 entries. A special thanks to trainers Ken and Emily Smith of Ashland Farm for allowing Danielle to show Kinsale this week and to Chrissy Geer for her training expertise!

Elizabeth Wiley and her hunter Say Again and Crescendo made their presence known in the Adult Amateur Hunter, 36-49, section. Say Again placed first and second, while Crescendo also collected ribbons in three of the five classes.

Leslie Kopp piloted El Cano to second place in a Low Children’s/Adult Jumper class, an excellent performance in a tough class of 21 entries.

During Week 7, Leslie and The Impressionist and Emma Pell aboard Gynmagic Cover Girl scored ribbons in their respective sections as well, for a rewarding two weeks at WEF.

The Skyland Farm team continues to enjoy showing on the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida. With Week 7 a wrap, the riders have shared ample fun and great experiences while learning and improving their skills in the show ring.

Breakthrough moments have also come, some reflected in ribbons and others more subtle, from mastering a challenging lead change to learning a new mount’s favorite treat. Skyland Farm thanks the owners, riders, parents, grooms and other supporters who’ve made these first seven weeks so wonderful!
