Skyland Farm horses and riders spent two weeks competing at the St. Christopher’s and Blue Rock horse shows in Pennsylvania, May 6-17, and enjoyed the show circuit located at Swan Lake Stables in Littlestown.

“We decided to do something different this year,” said trainer Denice Perry. “We wanted to explore other horse shows and parts of the country, so we traveled up to the Gettysburg area for these two weeks. The Swan Lake facility is amazing, and the hospitality was wonderful. Even the hotels in Gettysburg were lovely, and we all had a nice time.”

Denice was impressed with the show facilities and the level of competition. “The numbers in the classes were huge, and the quality was top shelf,” she noted. “I was especially proud of the Skyland team, who all received excellent ribbons during the two weeks. There were lots of great performances, and the horses all seemed to enjoy the venue, too.”

Highlights during the shows included Elizabeth Wiley’s Adult Amateur Hunter, 36-49, championship both weeks with Say Again, Emma Pell’s top calls aboard her ponies Forget Me Not and Glynmagic Cover Girl and Leslie Kopp’s ribbons with The Impressionist and El Cano in the competitive Adult Hunter and Jumper sections.

After a career in the jumper ring and two foals, Skyland Farm’s Cirena made her hunter debut at St. Christopher’s and Blue Rock. With Denice and Chiara Carney aboard, the bay warmblood sported braids and jumped to ribbons in the Performance Working Hunters. Cirena also made her first USHJA Hunter Derby start, confidently cantering around the natural obstacles and providing a glimpse into her future.

“It’s a new adventure for Cirena!” said Denice laughing. “She really can do it all. I think she’ll make an excellent hunter and derby horse, and I’m looking forward to seeing where she goes in the hunter ring.”

Forget Me Not also celebrated a birthday, complete with a cookie cake that everyone enjoyed!

After returning to Virginia, Denice was thrilled to find a surprise awaited them in the mail. Emma Pell received the Best Child Rider on Pony Award at the Lexington Spring Premiere, and the show managers were kind enough to send the ribbon to Skyland so Emma could enjoy a photo-op.
