Kentucky Summer Fun

The Skyland Farm team traveled to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington for several weeks of showing in late July and early August. It was a great chance to spend time at one of the country’s best equestrian venues and enjoy competing against new horses and riders and meeting friends, both new and old.

The highlights were many, and included great ribbons as well as fun adventures on the Rolex Kentucky cross-country course. Elizabeth Wiley and Say Again continued on with their tricolor collection with the reserve championship honors in the Kentucky Summer Classic’s Adult Amateur, 36-59, section against some tough competition. Elizabeth also picked up nice placings on Crescendo in the same section.

Virginia Bonnie and Wink And Smile also collected a reserve championship at the Kentucky Summer, theirs coming in the super competitive Small Pony Hunter section where riders were gearing up and practicing for the upcoming Pony Finals competition. Likewise, Skyland Farm’s ponies prepared for Pony Finals with great ribbons in their respective sections, including Emma Pell with Checkmate, Glynmagic Cover Girl and Forget Me Not, and Virginia with Blue A Kiss and Prom Queen.

Leslie Kopp guided The Impressionist, Amicello, El Cano and Bethany to excellent ribbons in the Adult Amateur hunter and jumper sections.

The U.S. Pony Finals, held August 3-9, attracted more than 600 ponies that competed in six sections of regular and green ponies and featured intense competition as well as fun and games for pony riders.

Highlights for Skyland Farm included Emma Pell and Forget Me Not earning a top-10 ribbon in the Small Pony Model and Emma placing 36th overall aboard Checkmate in the Medium Green section. Virginia Bonnie was impressive in the Marshall & Sterling/U.S. Pony Medal Final and was a finalist, placing in the top 25 out of 165 riders.

“It was a great two weeks, and we all had fun and learned a lot,” said trainer Denice Perry.
