A Grand Time at Warrenton

Elizabeth Wiley celebrates her Grand Championship honors with Kenny Wheeler and her mother, Helen Wiley.

Elizabeth Wiley couldn’t have picked a better place than the Warrenton Horse Show to earn Grand Championship honors. With a lifelong family history at the 108-year-old competition in Warrenton, Virginia, and her mother, Helen Wiley, as the current president,  a better script couldn’t have been written.

Elizabeth and her mounts Say Again and Crescendo dominated the Adult Amateur and Local Hunter Owner/Rider sections, with Elizabeth and Say Again claiming championship honors in the Adult Amateur, 36 and over, section and in the Local Hunter Owner/Rider sections. They earned enough points in each respective section for two Grand Championships as well. In addition, Elizabeth also won the Style Award, presented by Bill Rube and The Clothes Horse, for the turn-out and presentation of her horses.

“Elizabeth had a fantastic show, and I’m so proud of her as a horseman,” said trainer Denice Perry. “I’m so happy she was recognized for her riding skills as well as the care of her horses. She keeps her horses at home and does the work herself, which is not as common as it used to be. But by knowing her horses well in the ring and on the ground, she’s created a special connection with them that shows up in competition. I’m also thrilled that she received these grand championships at Warrenton, which is a fitting tribute to a family that’s been committed to this show for decades.”

At the end of the show, which concluded on August 31, Elizabeth received the Warrenton Horse Show’s overall Grand Championship for her many blue ribbons aboard Say Again, and the Reserve Grand Championship with Crescendo.

Skyland Farm rider Colleen Hahn also enjoyed a great weekend, as she placed second aboard her HJ Vasco in the Children’s/Adult Jumper event at Twilight Jumpers in The Plains, Virginia on Friday night. Congratulations to everyone for a banner Labor Day Weekend in the show ring!
